The Land

A land of culture

The Land

We’re in northeastern Italy, between Venice and the Dolomites, in the foothills of Treviso. This has always been a land made for the vine, but also one deeply linked to the historical and artistic heritage of Veneto.

Here, alongside landscapes shaped by agricultural work, a sensibility took hold that gave form to art and thought, beauty running through both – from the woods of Montello, once a reserve of the Republic of Venice, to the villas and villages of the Colli Asolani, the cultivated countryside of Venetian nobility, home to artists and thinkers such as Giorgione, Canova and Palladio.

To steward this land means to cultivate it and to keep telling its story. It means letting agriculture sustain culture – and culture, in turn, inform the work of the fields. Our cooperative is rooted in this living balance.

Geography and Pedoclimate

Hills to high plain

Cantina Montelliana operates across the southwestern foothills of Treviso, in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy – a varied, transitional landscape that links the rounded, river-born slopes of Montello to the more irregular ridge of the Colli Asolani, descending toward the upper plain around Montebelluna.

Geography and Pedoclimate

Altitudes range from 100 to 370 metres above sea level, with predominantly southern exposure. This morphological variety creates a wide range of mesoclimates and ripening conditions, giving each zone its own distinctive traits.

The climate is temperate subcontinental, with warm but breezy summers and relatively mild winters. The winds descending from Mount Grappa – the pre-Alpine massif that overlooks the upper Marca, the hilly heart of Treviso – help moderate summer heat and keep the vines dry, promoting healthy fruit. The marked day–night temperature shifts in the hills enhance aromatic finesse and stability, especially in Glera, which here finds its ideal balance.

Appellations and Varieties

Cantina Montelliana is the only cooperative fully rooted within the area protected by the Asolo Montello Consortium. This territory brings together two complementary expressions: the hillside elegance of Asolo Prosecco DOCG and the expressive depth of Montello wines, represented by the Montello e Colli Asolani DOC and Montello Rosso DOCG appellations.

Varieties

Across the hills of Montello and the Colli Asolani, Glera reaches its ideal balance. The combination of marked day–night temperature shifts and marl- and clay-rich soils gives rise to wines that are fresh, savoury, and finely detailed. Glera is the variety behind Asolo DOCG – the hillside denomination that best reflects our production identity.Alongside Asolo DOCG, part of the grapes harvested in the foothill and plain areas are used for Prosecco DOC Treviso, which also includes rosé versions made from Glera blended with a small share of Pinot Noir.

All find expression within the Montello e Colli Asolani DOC, which safeguards the typicity of hillside production. The more structured and age-worthy reds, meanwhile, fall under the Montello Rosso DOCG – the qualitative peak of the local Bordeaux-inspired tradition.
